Bio

Brian Hill

I'm Brian Hill, a technologist, author, musician, and lifelong, unrepentant geek.

I've spent decades in IT, doing everything from bare-metal PC repair to designing and supporting world-class data centers. I've built digital training platforms for DARPA-funded programs that train thousands of active-duty military and veterans, published technical courses (you may have taken my Wireshark series on Udemy), and generally made a career out of understanding how things work and explaining them.

I also write fiction. My Rev Parata Occult Mysteries series drops a Native American PI into 1980s New Orleans, where hard-boiled detective work collides with Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Desolation is a post-apocalyptic survival story for people who are tired of zombies. And Unconstrained is my love letter to the AI moment we're living through—a near-future thriller about what happens when an AGI slips its leash.

All of my books are available on Kindle Unlimited and Amazon. My influences run from Gaiman and King to Stephenson, Lovecraft, and Kim Stanley Robinson—I like stories that make you think and keep you up at night.

I've been playing drums since I was a kid, and I still do — you can find me on YouTube at BrianOnDrums. I dabble in other instruments and have a weakness for recording and arranging. I also co-host F'ing Up the Ineffable, a podcast where we do exactly what the name suggests.

Outside of all that: I lift heavy things and put them back down. I've owned a ton of fast cars, I'm a voracious reader of nonfiction, and I dabble quite a bit in meditation.

Welcome!
